Rehman Malik escapes assault by angry protesters in Peshawar hospital

Rehman Malik faced an unexpected situation in Peshawar’s Lady Reading hospital when annoyed protesters attacked former Interior minister who went there to visit people who were wounded on Sunday in Peshawar church bombing.

Rehman Malik was visiting Lady Reading hospital to enquire about the health of victims on behalf of his party when members of victims’ families ran after the ex-minister to assault him. However, the Senator found asylum in hospital’s chief executive office.

The protesters surrounded the office where former interior minister had taken refuge and chanted slogans against hospital authorities and the government.

Protesters said the wounded victims were not being taken care of, adding that shortage of medicine is making the situation worse.
Malik was taken out of the hospital amidst tight security where he spoke to media persons. He said Pakistan Peoples Party condemns Peshawar Church blasts which is a cowardly act of terrorists.

Malik criticized government’s soft behavior with militants saying that church attack was due to Mulla Baradar’s release.

Ex-minister said terrorists are damaging the country’s image abroad by such activities. He suggested that terrorists be handled with iron hand.
