President urges engineers to get prepared to meet challenges

President Mamnoon Hussain says engineers should equip themselves with advanced knowledge and skills to meet the modern day challenges.

Addressing the inaugural session of 5th World Engineering Congress on Monday‚ he said that the role of engineers has assumed significance in view of greater demand for basic necessities of life and infrastructure as a result of rapid increase in population. He said engineering input is indispensable for sustainable progress and development.

The president said resource crunch and threats posed by environmental degradation have further complicated the problems of developing countries like Pakistan. He said the engineers should come up with out of box solutions to meet these challenges.

The President expressed the confidence that the world engineering congress will serve as an effective platform for the engineers to share their knowledge and expertise for the collective benefit of Islamic countries. He hoped this assembly of engineers will prove to be a real harbinger of growth.

Speaking on the occasion‚ Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid emphasized the need for promotion of dialogue and cooperation among Islamic countries in different fields to achieve the objective of socio economic development.

About one hundred and fifty participants from more than twenty Islamic countries are attending the moot.
