Nisar reviews KP law and order; announces 3-day mourning

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan chaired a special meeting in Peshawar on Sunday to review the law and order situation in the province after the Peshawar blasts.

The meeting was attended by the governor‚ the chief minister and the chief secretary besides the inspector general police and the inspector general constabulary.

Meanwhile, Chaudhry Nisar expressed grief and sorrow on behalf of the government and the entire nation over the deadly suicide bombings in PeshawarChurch and announced a 3-day nation-wide mourning.

Talking to media men, Ch Nisar, flanked by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, assured full support to the KP government to complement efforts for medical treatment and other help to the victims.

He said the president telephoned him and told him that he wanted to visit Peshawar but he could not due to lack of security clearance. “The president will undertake the visit after a few days to inquire after the victims and bereaved families, pray for the deceased and injured besides expressing solidarity with the victims,” he said.

Strongly condemning Pakistan’s one of the deadliest attacks, the interior minister said: “No Pakistani has any words to condemn such an inhuman act”.

He said he wondered who these people were who call themselves brave and yet go ahead and kill women and innocent children. “What religion, society or law could see such acts as legitimate,” he asked.

He said only the anti-Islam forces could execute such heinous acts of terrorism.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had directed Ch Nisar to immediately reach Peshawar and ensure all necessary help for the injured. He was also asked to keep the prime minister informed about the relief measures in the aftermath of the deadly attack.

The prime minister had also directed for provision of a helicopter to shift the seriously injured people to Islamabad for treatment.

On the directions of the prime minister, the secretary to PM telephoned the KP chief secretary and offered all possible medical and emergency assistance to help the victims of Peshawar bomb blasts.

The cabinet division was also directed to immediately make helicopters available to the KP government for any evacuation of injured for treatment in Islamabad or any other cities.

As many as 78 people had lost their lives including women and children while more than 100 others sustained wounds when two suicide attackers blew themselves up outside a Church near Qissa Khawani Bazaar in Peshawar.
