As many as six suspect militants were killed and four others injured after a US drone fired missiles on two compounds in South Waziristan Agency (SWA) on Sunday.
The officials in Wana, headquarters of SWA, said the US drone fired missiles on two militant hideouts. Various portions of the compounds were razed to ground.
They also said six people were killed and another four received injuries. The injured were shifted to a hospital in Makeen in North Waziristan.
The identity of those killed was yet to be determined. Locals and officials believed that foreigners were also among the deceased.
Separately, the government condemned the US drone strike.
A Foreign Office spokesman in a statement said these unilateral strikes are a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Pakistan has repeatedly emphasised the importance of bringing an immediate end to drone strikes.
The government has consistently maintained that drone strikes are counter-productive‚ entail loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications. Such strikes also set dangerous precedents in the inter-state relations.
He said these drone strikes have a negative impact on the mutual desire of both countries to forge a cordial and cooperative relationship and to ensure peace and stability in the region.
