LHC turns down Progressive Group petition

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday turned down the petition filed by Progressive Group against placement of names in candidate list and directed to contest the upcoming LCCI elections according list.

The candidates list has been already published and displayed on the website by Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).

As per details, the Progressive Group moved a petition in the LHC seeking placement of the names of candidates at their place of choice. The judge heard both the parties and disposed off the petition. The PIAF-Founders Alliance lauded the court’s decision and termed it a victory of democratic forces and rule of law.

Meanwhile, PIAF-Founders Alliance has pledged to serve the business community to the best of its abilities for the sake of early economic revival of the country. Alliance leaders including Mian Anjum Nisar, Mian Muhammad Ashraf, Iftikhar Ali Malik and Muhammad Ali Mian, while addressing a luncheon reception hosted by Clearing Agents Association at Lahore Dry Port on Friday said that all trade and industrial associations are standing firm behind the PIAF-Founders Alliance for its services for the business community in the past years.

They said that after winning the LCCI elections, the Alliance would ensure participation of the business community in the policy making process at government level and consult all stakeholders to achieve desired results.

The leaders thanked the members of Clearing Agents Association for their support to the PIAF-founders candidates in the upcoming LCCI elections scheduled to be held on September 23 and 24.

Iftikhar Ali Malik and Muhammad Ali Mian said that the business community should unite to resolve everyday challenges being faced by the country. They said that not only the industrial estates were supporting the Alliance but businessmen from different leading market sectors have extended full support to the Alliance candidates.

Furthermore, they said that a roadmap would be provided to business delegations and exporters would be given their due share in it. Traders of Paper Market, Urdu Bazar, Anarkali, Ferozepur Road, Azam Cloth Market, Akbari Mandi, Steel Sheet Market, Landa Bazar, Lahore Cantt, DHA, Chamberlian Road, Camera Market, Hide Market, Brandreth Road, Bilal Ganj, Model Town, Garden Town and Mall Road have announced their full support for the PIAF-Founders Alliance candidates.

 

JUDGES TAKE OATH: Six new judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) took oath of their office on Friday

LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial administered oath to the judges in a ceremony held at the LHC judges’ lounge. The ceremony was attended by LHC judges, law officers, LHC staff, families of the judges and senior lawyers.

Those who took oath include Justice Abdul Sami Khan, Justice Ibad-ur-Rehman Lodhi, Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Justice Ayesha A. Malik, Justice Shahid Waheed and Justice Ali Baqar Najfi.

The strength of LHC judges now stand at 33 with the inclusion of the newly confirmed judges.
