LHC SEEKS PUNJAB GOVERNMENT’S REPLY: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought reply from Punjab Government and Health Department on a civil miscellaneous application demanding enquiry against officials allegedly involved in embezzlement of millions of rupees.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial passed the orders on the application filed in a petition pending since 2011 regarding government failure in controlling dengue outbreak.
The petitioner’s counsel on Friday alleged that millions of rupees had been embezzled in purchase of anti-dengue medicines from January 2012 to September 2013. He submitted that news clippings had been attached with the application to apprise the court over the issue. He added at least 71 dengue cases were reported on September 4 which were increasing every day.
He also alleged that the department officials and some government high ups were also involved in purchase of substandard anti-dengue medicines. However, enquiry against the officials have been conducted, the lawyer added.
The petitioner prayed to the court to issue directions to the respondents to hold a transparent enquiry against officials involved in money embezzlement. However, after hearing the initial arguments the chief justice issued notice to the respondents to file their reply till October 23.
