Sindh Chief Secretary on Thursday submitted a report before the apex court regarding ongoing targeted action in the violence-hit metropolis. The report said that over 1000 criminals including target killers‚ extortionists and those involved in heinous crimes have been arrested.
A five-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, and comprising Justices Jawwad S. Khawaja, Khilji Arif Hussain, Amir Hani Muslim and Azmat Saeed was hearing the case at Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry. During the hearing, Inspector General Sindh, Additional Inspector General Sindh and Director General of Sindh Rangers were present in the court.
The CJP said that police officers who took part in Karachi operations of 1992 and 1996 were killed one by one. “The IG police should tell the court where are their killers? In this situation, no one comes to be a witness. The murder of witnesses is not possible without the nexus of police and influential people.”
The chief justice said in spite of clear orders by the court, the Sindh government could not arrest the killers of journalist Wali Khan Babar. Instead the witnesses of his murder were killed one by one.
The CJP hailed Sindh Assembly’s legislation for the protection of witnesses. Justice Iftikhar remarked that nobody is above the law and action should be taken against the killers of witnesses in various cases.
CJP is so right that all witnesses were killed and no one was bothered. I would request and appeal to our CJP Mr IFTIKHAR CHAUDHRY to kindly look into the posting of unqualified baboos.
