The Sindh government has decided to conduct local government elections on November 27, according to advocate general SM Khalid Javed.

The Supreme Court (SC) was informed of this decision during a hearing at the Quetta registry. According to media reports, various political parties have not been taken into confidence yet, but they will be soon.

Earlier, the Sindh government had requested the SC to grant time till December to conduct the local government elections as the elections will require a favourable law and order situation, the completion of the delimitation process and some legal amendments. However, this was not accepted by the apex court’s larger bench at the SC Quetta registry.

  1. MQM's Mayor Mustafa Kemal had done the phenomenal work in Karachi (2002-2007), when MQM had the government, and the Mayor was hailed as the second best Mayors of the World (Foreign Affairs, USA). In 2009, when PPP got the government, they did the criminal action by abolishing the post of Mayor (local government) because they were afraid MQM was getting tremendous popularity. They did not even consider that the People of Karachi and Pakistan was actually getting benefit by the work of Mustafa Kemal. They appointed commissioners who were not representative of the people and therefore had no interest with the people. Now when PPP is forced to conduct Mayors election by the Supreme Court, they want to slash the authority of the Mayor by taking away all his powers as they feel MQM will win the election again. They transferred the tax money and power to the Sind government and not to the local government (mayors).
The Central Government should realize this and punish PPP for their role in corrupting Pakistan, and they should force PPP to give the powers to the local government (mayors).

  2. it should be non party election for the council and within this year; Mayor should not be elected by the Councillors but Mayor should directly elected by people of the city
