Senior all-rounder Shahid Afridi has once again expressed his interest in captaining the Pakistan cricket team. Afridi said that after having played 17 years for the country he always considered it as a big honour to captain the national team.

“If the Cricket Board (PCB) deems it fit and offers me the captaincy again I will accept it as a challenge,” Afridi said.

“I think the position we are facing right now is that all the senior players need to contribute more and play a more decisive role in the South Africa series,” he said.

The all-rounder was removed as captain of the Twenty20 and ODI teams in 2011 after differences with PCB and has not been given a chance to lead the national side since then.

Afridi, who led Pakistan in the last World Cup, is said to be a top candidate to get the captaincy again of the ODI side for the forthcoming series against South Africa in the UAE after insiders hinted that the PCB had decided to relieve Misbah-ul-Haq of the duties.

“In principle it has been decided that since there is little time before the South Africa series and the Test matches are to be played before the limited over games, Misbah and Dav Whatmore will continue as captain and head coach for the Tests but Afridi will be brought in as ODI captain while Mohammad Hafeez will continue to lead the T20 outfit,” one source said.

  1. Of course he deserves the position , i mean this guy is the real "man" in the team after misbah and ajmal , so PCB he is not only good he is the perfect one for the upcoming tour , but he has also retired from test , this would make it a little bit unpredictable , but this would greatly improve his form , oh and hafeez is still good for t 20's so removing him will only worsen the rankings …………

  2. No way!!! He is in decline. He performs in 1 out of 10 games . He lacks courage and dignity as he resigned from Test captaincy in the middle of an overseas series. He is unreliable both as a player and captain. He also showed lack of wisdom and taste when he went to National Stadium for an autograph session on the day of the Peshawar church bombing when 83 of our Christian brothers/sisters died and the entire nation was in mourning and praying for the victims. According to an newspaper interview, he then wondered why people did not show up for his worthless autograph and eventually figured that perhaps it was due to the bombing and mourning. What an idiot!! Stay away Afridi and retire with grace. It's time to take a long walk.

  3. Shahid Afridi needs to retire from all form of cricket, he has been a failure for the past several years. PLZ Afridi resign, you are a greedy person who won't retire easily. SHAME ON YOU AFRIDI.
