The District and sessions court handed a 10-year prison sentence to a rapist in Karachi. In 2011, accused Ayaz was arrested after a six-year-old rape survivor identified him as the abuser. Ayaz had been in police custody since then and had appeared before the court regularly for the hearings. The rape took place inside Ayaz’s house in the Sher Shah area of the city. The culprit had reportedly lured the little girl into entering his house by offering her candy. The court verdict comes at a time when the nation has been swept by grief and anger following the ghastly ‘gang rape’ of a five-year-old girl in the Mughalpura neighbourhood of Lahore
