Adviser to Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz has said there was no hope yet of Nawaz Sharif’s meeting with Indian counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Aziz said there was no contact between Pakistan and India regarding the meeting of Nawaz and Manmohan on the occasion of UN General Assembly meeting.
“No ice melting is seen in Nawaz-Manmohan meeting,” he remarked.
He said the Kashmir issue must be resolved in the light of the UN resolutions.
To a question, he said India had not allowed cross examination of the accused in Mumbai attacks case.
He said non-state actors could be involved in LoC firing incidents and they might be using Pakistan Army uniforms.
Aziz said relations between Pakistan and India were tense in past few weeks due to recurrence of firing incidents at LoC and ceasefire violations by the Indian forces.
He said that Pakistan would release Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Baradar but he would not be handed over to Afghan authorities.
The adviser said Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was to pay a visit to Iran in the near future to discuss the Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project.
He reiterated that Islamabad would pursue the project and had informed the US of its energy requirements. Pakistan is bound to purchase gas from Iran by January 1, 2015.
