The summary for an amendment in the Anti Terrorism Act has been sent to Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif for approval.
Sources said that with the approval of the summary, rangers would obtain the authority to take terrorists, target killers, extortionists and abductors into custody.
During a meeting held last week, the Karachi Operation legal committee working under Minister Zahid Hamid, advised Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah that rangers be given the authority to arrest the elements involved in the Karachi insurgency.
Sources said the CM has recommended the PM to amend the Anti Terrorism Act and a formal summary has also been sent to Islamabad in this regard.
