Two tribesmen arrested over honour killing of three women

Taking prompt notice of the killing of three women on the directives of a tribal jirga in Darra Adam Khel, the administration on Monday announced suspending all perks and privileges of tribesmen and in return, two men have been surrendered.

The political administration said two men, including the husband of one of the slain women, had been arrested so far.

It said efforts for arrest of all jirga members, who on Sunday ordered execution of the three women, were underway.

Per details, one of the women belonged to Jawaki clan of Afridi tribe. She was married to a relative, who was living in Karachi. The woman was reportedly having illicit relations with another man. A couple of months ago, she eloped with her lover to Swat.

The relatives registered a case in Karachi and forced Swat Police for her arrest. The Swat Police reportedly arrested the woman and handed her over to relatives.

In accordance with the tribal traditions, a jirga of the tribal elders ordered the execution of the woman along with two of her older female relatives, who had reportedly helped her flee Karachi.

An official of the political administration said all three women were shot dead by close relatives on Sunday and were later buried in a local graveyard.

As Darra Adam Khel is a frontier region governed by the Kohat deputy commissioner as its political agent, the Kohat DC took a notice of the matter and directed the assistant political agent to ensure an early arrest of the culprits involved in killing of three women.

The administration also announced suspending all perks and privileges of tribal elders.

Two men were subsequently handed over by the jirga members to the officials. The political administration has demanded the jirga members also surrender.
