Low cost power production among the govt’s top priorities: Khawaja Asif

Federal minister for water and power, Khawaja Asif has stated that the production of low cost electricity is a top priority and the government is making a concerted effort to achieve that end. He spoke on this issue while addressing a 4-country’s council meeting of South-Central Asian Electric Transmission and Trade Project (SAETTP) on Monday in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by the water and power ministers of Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Karazistan and Pakistan. As per Khawaja Asif, the government has recently announced the long termed and short termed projects, designed to deal with the energy crisis. He said that the government aims to produce 1000MW electricity through the said projects which would help in controlling the energy crisis. Furthermore, he mentioned that the government has allocated Rs. 1 billion for the energy related projects and he expressed his hope that completion of said projects will not only help in overcoming the electricity shortage but also in storing water for irrigation purposes.
