- Strategic Policy Unit to be set up to start work on the project
A Strategic Policy Unit (SPU) will be set up under the supervision of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general to initiate work on the River Ravi Development Zone Project.
The LDA governing body decided this in a meeting held on Thursday.
The project entails high quality residential, commercial, institutional, cultural and recreational zones along both sides of the River Ravi on a 33 km stretch.
The SPU will comprise of area specialists of various fields including urban planning, water engineering, transport engineering, GIS, applied economics and finance and will be housed in LDA.
The meeting decided to set up a steering committee led by Lahore Ring Road Authority chairperson who will be responsible for coordination and monitoring of progress of the project and making operational decisions, in anticipation of the approval of the summary sent to the Punjab Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif.
Members of the steering committee will include Commissioner, Lahore Division, representative of Chairman P & D as well as representatives of the secretaries of provincial Finance, Housing and Irrigation Departments, representative of CEO, Urban Unit and LDA Director General as Secretary of the committee.
The Steering Committee will also be tasked to work as Selection Committee for area specialists to be hired to serve in SPU. The meeting approved selection of private development partners and terms of agreement for launching a new housing scheme namely LDA City, on 40,000 kanals of land along Ferozepur Road.
It also approved selection of consultants for Planning and Designing of LDA City and acquisition of additional land after issuance of notification under relevant acts.
The meeting also accorded administrative approval of Rs 1967.953 million for electrification of LDA Avenue-I Scheme, including approval of Rs 43 million for Book Adjustment regarding cost of 43 kanals of land handed over to LESCO (free of cost) for construction of Grid Station at LDA Avenue-I Scheme.
