  • Irfan Khoosat aims to revive classical theater

In an attempt to revive theatre ‘Weekend Theatre Festival’ will hold theatre plays on November 22 at Al Hamra Theatre.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday at Lahore Press Club, Veteran actor Irfan Khoosat said that eight commercial cum professional performances ranging across a variety of genres, languages and art forms have been arranged giving it a contemporary flavor.

The plays will be held in Urdu, English and Punjabi.

Irfan Khoosat, Mohammad Qavi Khan, Firdaus Jamal, Aurangzeb Leghari, Sania Saeed, Nauman Ejaz, Sarmad Khoosat, Nimra Bucha, Naila Jafri including many other actors will be perform in the plays.

He said that renowned novelists and BBC Urdu Head Mohammad Hanif including many other writers will contribute to the script, giving the audience a chance to re-visit and reconnect with the rich heritage of the city.

Irfan Khoosat said that his aim is to revive theatre in its true essence and spirit. “Commercial theater lacks quality and does not uphold the original appeal of classical theater. With the revival of classical theatre the taste of the audience will develop,” he added.

Sarmad Khoosat said that worldwide theatre is considered to be the real stage for performing arts and Weekend Theatre Festival aims to do just that.

Asghar Nadeem Syed and Syed Noor lauded the effort and said that the Weekend Theatre Festival will be a fantastic experience.
