The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) is pleased to announce the six winners of the 2013 WISE awards.
Since 2009, the WISE Awards have helped disseminate some of the most effective practices in urgently addressing several global educational challenges.
The winning projects were Casablanca’s Medersat, London’s PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools); Ireland’s ALISON (Advance Learning Information Systems Online); Toronto’s Pathways to Education; Hamilton’s Te Kotahitanga and Saudi Arabia’s iThraYouth Initiative.
Medersat received the special mention for ‘access to education’. This emphasis reflected the support of the Qatar Foundation Chairperson Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser for the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goal (MDG) two on achieving universal primary education.
A Jury comprised of leaders from the educational world and chaired by WISE Chairman Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani selected the winning projects from a shortlist of 14 finalists. In total, the WISE received more than 500 applications for these prestigious awards.
Thani said “The WISE awards jury has identified six diverse projects from around the world that represent inspiring models for all those who seek to overcome obstacles to education. For five years, the WISE awards have been building a community of education pioneers from across the educational spectrum, including non-governmental organisations, academia and both the public and private sectors, who are witnessing a growing and sustainable impact. The winners will join their peers to inspire positive change in education”.
The six 2013 WISE award-winning projects and other finalists will participate in the fifth annual WISE Summit taking place from October 29 to 31 at the Doha’s Qatar National Convention Center under the theme ‘Reinventing Education for Life’.
