They came into the industry with a bang and the entire industry vouched for their talent. However, their stardom fizzled out just like a bottle of coke right after a film or two. Here’s a look at some of the Bollywood beauties who at one point seemed to be the most promising actresses of B- Town, but soon faded into oblivion.
Bhagyashree
Bhagyashree rose to overnight stardom with the super hit movie ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. Blockbuster of the year, MPK had announced the arrival of the next big thing in B- town. Her childlike voice and infectious smile left her fans yearning for more. But Bhagyashree being a demure beauty refused to work with anyone other than her husband. A few ‘blink-of-an-eye’ roles here and there and she gradually faded into oblivion.
Gracy Singh
The TV starlet created a rage among the audience with her dynamic performance as ‘Gauri’ in ‘Lagaan’. Right when she entered the league of ‘top Bollywood actresses’, her next movie ‘Armaan’ as the lead, bumped badly at the box office. Her reluctance towards glamorous roles and more prominence towards regional movies gradually led her way out of Bollywood.
Mahima Chaudhary
Subhash Ghai’s protege, Mahima wooed the audience with her iconic role of a village belle in ‘Pardes’. Her simple look and innocence in the movie won numerous hearts, but none of her movies could cast the same spell on the audience after ‘Pardes’.
Sandali Sinha
Those tears you wanted to stop and the smile you wished to see again and again – Sandali Sinha’s portrayal of ‘Pia’ in ‘Tum Bin’ was remarkable. This style diva had all the ingredients of making it big in B-Town but it became impossible for her to leap ahead of the milestone she created in ‘Tum Bin’.
Lisa Ray
The green eyed beauty could send shivers down the spine with just one look. Her sensuous body language and intense intimate scenes in ‘Kasoor’ proclaimed her as one of the most promising actresses in the industry. Listed among the ‘Most Beautiful Women of the Millennium’, Lisa received accolades for her critically acclaimed role in Deepa Mehta’s ‘Water’ but failed to re-create the ‘Kasoor’ magic among the audience again.
Bhumika Chawla
Salman’s protege, Bhumika Chawla carved a niche with her acting skills right with her first movie, ‘Tere Naam’. The movie bagged her many awards for her hard hitting debut performance. But like the rest of Salman’s heroines, she too failed to sizzle on the big screen again. Happily married to Yoga guru Bharat Thakur, Bhumika is making it big in Tollywood.
Ameesha Patel
Ameesha Patel made huge waves with her cute looks and bubbly character in Kaho Na Pyar Hai. She also delivered an all time hit ‘Gadar’ with Sunny Deol. Though the movie gave her an edge over all other actresses of the year, her choice of scripts like Kya Yahi Pyar Hai, Ye Zindagi Ka Safar added her name to the list of forgettable actresses of Bollywood. With her home production ‘Desi Magic’ set to release soon, we hope she manages to rule hearts again.
Diana Penty
Supermodel Diana Penty became an instant star with her ‘to die for’ looks and natural acting skills. While sleeper hit ‘Cocktail’ gave her instant fame all across and it was expected that she would be bombarded with offers, nothing of that sort seems to have happened till now. And the latest we hear is, Sooraj Barjatya’s untitled next starring Salman Khan, has also slipped out of her hands. Well, we just hope Diana continues to be in fight!
