In an alarming development, around 16 dengue fever suspects have visited two allied hospitals; Holy Family and Benazir Bhutto hospitals during last 48 hours, official sources said on Tuesday. The number of dengue suspects has increased from 140 to 156 during the last two days, out of which 10 patients have been admitted to Holy Family Hospital (HFH) and three to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH). Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) and allied hospitals focal person Dr Javed Hayat said majority of the patients are coming from within Rawalpindi. “Presently, only two dengue patients are under treatment in HFH and one in BBH,” he added. He said all out-efforts are being made to control dengue cases in Rawalpindi, adding, “Dengue fever situation is under control. Chance of dengue fever will end by mid of October when the weather conditions change.” Dr Hayat said maximum arrangements for treatment of dengue fever patients have been made, besides all possible preventive measures are in place to meet any eventuality. District Health Officer Dr Ansar Ishaque said a full-scale fumigation drive is underway in different localities of the city especially where dengue larva has been found. He said the Health Department’s team on Tuesday visited Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Dhoke Naju, Dhoke Dalal, Safdarabad, Bangash Colony, Pirwadhai, besides areas in and around the main bus terminals and government departments and sprayed chemicals to kill mosquitoes.
