The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) will launch an awareness campaign against quackery to educate people keeping in view the threats of spreading of contagious diseases through quacks. According to a PMDC official, during the campaign, people will be educated about the hazard effects on their health by treatment from the quacks. He said the campaign was being launched keeping in view widely spreading quackery in the country due to which health of the common man was at stake. He blamed quacks for spreading contagious diseases in urban and rural areas of the country. He said, “Any person who is practicing what he is not authorised for is a quack and will be punished strictly.” He said that the PMDC’s new website, accessible to the general masses, would provide information through which everybody had the facility to verify the authenticity of the status of the registration of doctors. He said that it was the responsibility of the PMDC to devise a method in compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court against the quackery. The official said, “We will also take all the people, who are working for the same cause, on board. It is high time that television channels should verify the credibility of the doctors before giving their advertisements or inviting them as guests in their programmes.” He said the PMDC was trying to take the people from the education department on board so that they could amend the curriculums and add this issue in the books to create awareness regarding genuine doctors and quacks in the syllabus.
