A three-day special campaign began throughout the country on Monday to enroll 500,000 out-of-school children in schools. Sources said that education is one of the top priorities of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) government and it is committed to increase literacy through education emergency envisaging launching of crash programs. The federal‚ provincial‚ Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan governments would aggressively participate in the campaign to achieve the target. During the campaign‚ children of school-going age would be enrolled with the cooperation of local communities. Twenty thousand non-formal schools working under the administrative control of the federal government would add five children each during the campaign. The remaining four hundred thousand children would be enrolled by the provincial governments. According to an estimate‚ over 6.5 million children of age group of five to nine and 25 million of five to sixteen years of age are out-of-school in the country.
