Governor distributes cheques to victims of ‘ponzi schemes’

Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar on Tuesday said that corrupt people are the real enemies of the country and every individual should play his role in pointing out such elements.

He said this at a cheque distribution ceremony while distributing cheques to affectees of various financial scams under the auspices of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The Governor said that NAB has full support of the government for rooting out corruption. He stated that establishment of a corruption-free society is a part of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) manifesto and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is taking all measures in this regard. “NAB is playing a pivotal role in eliminating corruption from the society and is working hard efforts to create awareness among the masses,” he added.

Moreover, he said that no legal business could double its capital just after a few days of its initiation, “Instead of investing money in these fraudulent schemes the citizens should immediately inform the police,” he opined.

The governor appreciated the performance of NAB in detecting and recovering the looted money from the corrupt mafia and assured full government support to eliminate corruption.

Earlier, the NAB Director General Husnain Ahmed said that an amount of nearly Rs 2.5 billion has been recovered from 24,760 defaulters of various power distribution companies.

On the occasion, the governor distributed an amount of Rs 101 million among the affectees of Double Shah, Trade Station Security, Rauf International and Aglam Global Links. He also gave away cheques to representatives of LESCO, GEPCO, FESCO and MEPCO which was recovered from the electricity defaulters.
