The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday asked the Punjab government to give it the final date of the local bodies’ polls by September 25.

LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial was hearing the case. During the proceedings, the petitioner’s lawyer told the court that the Punjab government was intentionally delaying holding the local bodies elections in the province, adding that according to the constitution and the law, the LB polls should have been held in the province.

The Punjab government’s lawyer told the court that the government was serious in holding LB elections in the province, adding that the bill was also approved in this regard.

He requested the court to not hear the case because the matter was in the Supreme Court.

Upon this, the LHC chief justice said the Punjab government was using delaying tactics in holding LB elections.
