The much-talked meeting between PTI Chairman Imran Khan and army chief Ashfaq Parvez Kayani featuring Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has become quite a mystery.
Imran Khan has accepted the invitation to join APC without any reference to the meeting which he has been demanding since long. Neither there is any confirmation from the government nor PTI side if the meeting is likely to be held before the APC, scheduled for September 9.
PTI sources claimed that Imran Khan is no longer urging for his meeting with Kayani as a pre-condition to his participation in the APC.
Imran backtracked from his demand after the government arranged his meetings with top officials. Sources said the PTI chairman was satisfied with their briefings and would not mind if there is no separate meeting with the top military brass.
There is another account from the government side that in the APC the military officials would talk to politicians in no-hold barred manner, leaving hardly any room for a separate meeting with top army officials. The briefing is in-camera and exclusively only for parliamentarians.
Some PTI leaders tried to convey to Imran Khan that by insisting on a separate meeting with the army chief he will be upping his responsibilities which in the end could backfire.
Meanwhile, all eyes are set if the government would arrange any such meeting before the start of APC or on its sidelines. The government has earlier indicated that it has no objection to any such meeting. It has even conveyed to the PTI chairman that it was willing to host a separate meeting featuring Imran Khan and the KP CM.
