Change in laws vital to meet new challenges: CJP

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has stressed the need of upgrading judicial system in accordance with the social evolution and change in beheaviours in the wake of growing internet technology.

The chief justice said this while chairing a meeting of Law and Justice Commission on Sunday. Chief justices of all the high courts, Shariat Court and the attorney general attended the meeting.

Justice Chaudhry said introducing new laws was the need of the hour as the existing laws could not meet the challenges of new circumstances.

He said only a strong judicial system could guarantee protection of people’s right. It was judiciary’s responsibility to provide justice to the people while the constitution also calls for dispensation of speedy justice, he added.

Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said there was a need to make the existing laws compatible with the requisitions of modern era.
