Sebastian Vettel topped the times again for Red Bull in Saturday morning’s final free practice session ahead of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix.

The 26-year-old German, series leader and defending triple world champion, clocked a fastest lap of one minute and 24.360 seconds to outpace nearest rival Fernando Alonso of Ferrari by two-tenths of a second.

For Spaniard Alonso, this was a mark of progress after seeing the Red Bull team dominate on Friday afternoon – his best lap enabling him to split them in the warm, dry conditions at the Autodromo Nazionale just a few hours ahead of the potentially critical qualifying session for Sunday’s 53-lap race.

Mark Webber was pushed down to third this time in the second Red Bull ahead of Briton Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes, Mexican Sergio Perez of McLaren and Webber’s fellow-Australian and successor for 2014 Daniel Ricciardo, an impressive sixth for Toro Rosso.

Brazilian Felipe Massa was seventh in the second Ferrari ahead of Briton Jenson Button in the second McLaren, Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado of Williams and Finn Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus.
