The proposed privatisation of Sector G-9 weekly bazaar has sparked anger among small traders and stall holders.

Over 2,500 stalls are situated in the bazaar with over 7,500 workers. Being the only source of income for these workers the act of privatising could deprive them of their livelihood.

The stall holders were allotted stalls through a proper allotment procedure, while most of them had to bribe corrupt officials. Three weekly bazaars are held in this main bazaar per week. The income the workers is meagre which fails to cater even their basic household needs. “Our means of income will be snatched from if the bazaar is privatised leading to being jobless and our families shelter less,” said the stall holders.

They demanded the authorities to withdraw the proposal of privatisation otherwise they will be forced to hold protest rallies.
