Former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Saturday said that issues like poverty, illiteracy and slow growth in South Asia could only be overcome by improving relations among the SAARC countries.
She said that besides state-level talks, people-to-people contacts could play a key role for the purpose.
Replying to a question, Khar said that Pakistan’s core interest was peace and security for its citizens. She also said that SAARC countries have realised that development relies in interaction with each other.
“SAARC countries must exploit their potential for regional benefit, which can lead to peace, progress and prosperity for their people,” she added.
