Hunger strike of Sindh Abadkar Association against non-provision of water to agricultural lands of Baddin district entered its fifth day on Saturday.
The association set up a hunger strike camp in front of the National Press Club protesting against unlawful use of authority and favouritism by Sindh chief minister (CM) by providing water from Rohri Canal Naseer division to influential landlords and depriving the poor.
They said that economy of Baddin district was based on agriculture. The area gets water for agricultural purposes through 10 canals spliting off from Rohri Canal but these canals are now dry, as the Sindh CM is providing water to his blue-eyed landlords and parliamentarians from direct lines. They complained that lands of small farmers have become barren and cattle are dying due to lack of water.
They said that the Sindh government did not pay heed to their miseries despite continuous protests forcing them to stage a hunger strike in the capital.
The protestors appealed to the Pakistan chief justice to take sou moto notice against the situation.
