Zardari to retake PPP reins

After finding little relaxation from the tasks of Presidency, Asif Ali Zardari has decided to re-take the top slot in the Pakistan People’s Party with plans of reorganization, especially in Punjab.

Sources privy to the PPP disclosed that after leaving the charge of Presidential Office, Zardari was taking command of his party with an ambition to reorganise it party and bring it back into politics.

In this connection, Zardari has summoned a sitting of top party leadership in Bilawal House Lahore on September 8 that he would personally chair.

President Zardari is giving his attention to the PPP in Punjab and plans to strengthen the party in the province, as his political opponent and sitting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif recently spent all his energies and resources to reorganise the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in Sindh.

In this connection, Zardari is expected to announce some major decisions regarding the party leadership in Punjab by shuffling the party positions.

The sources said that in the coming reshuffle in the PPP in Punjab, some major role was likely to be assigned to former information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira and Nadeem Afzal Gondal, however, the new party structure is not likely to offer any strong position to Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, the former PM.

President Zardari would also replace his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s position, who is commanding the party as the chairperson, and would lead the party personally.

All important party leaders have been directed to attend the coming Lahore sitting on Sunday, so that a future party strategy may be chalked out.
