GB officials claim arresting top militant commanders in Chilas

Senior officials in Gilgit-Baltistan on Thursday claimed arresting top militant commanders involved in recent acts of terrorism, including the killing of foreign tourists in Chilas district’s Baboo Sar area.

Chitral Superintendent of Police Mohammad Naveed said militants included Mohammad Nabi, son of Dilawar Shah and Gharibullah, son of Said Hussain Shah, had been arrested from Baboo Sar. He said both were considered top militants, involved in recent acts of terrorism including killing of 11 foreign tourists, senior police and two military officers.

According to Naveed, both the arrested militants were being interrogated and the exact name of their group was yet to be confirmed. However, certain police and civil officers said they were counted amongst active commanders of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. The SP said the arrest of the two was a great achievement.

Besides killing of foreign tourists, police and military officers, these militants of the banned TTP were also involved in sectarian violence in Gilgit-Baltistan. Around a year ago, these militants had attacked a passenger bus on way to Gilgit from Rawalpindi at Chilas and killed at least 20 passengers. Most of the victims were Shias.
