DEFENCE DAY: All rise for the martyrs

Defence Day is being celebrated in the city today with renewed vigour and enthusiasm to defend the country.
Defence Day is celebrated every year in memory of the sacrifices rendered by the soldiers and citizens of Pakistan against the Indian aggression during the 1965 war.
The district administration, educational institutions, political parties and NGOs have arranged special programmes to pay tribute to the 1965 war martyrs.
The Indian forces sneaked into Pakistan via the Wahga border but Pakistan’s armed forces, when alerted, valiantly defended their motherland and drove the attackers back.
Later, the Defence Day was additionally observed not only to recall the exploits of our jawans in the September war, but also during other wars the country had to face since partition. Homage is paid to those who laid down their lives for the sacred cause and wreaths are laid on the graves of the 10 martyrs who distinguished themselves for their extraordinary valour and were awarded the coveted Nishan-e-Haider.
District Coordination Officer (DCO) Nasim Sadiq will preside over a ceremony scheduled at the Jinnah Hall where officers and officials of different towns will attend the flag hoisting ceremony.
The Punjab Education Foundation has arranged different programmes to celebrate the historic day at various schools.
A function has also been arranged at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal Complex under the auspices of the Hashmat Memorial School. Chairman Aiwan-e-Iqbal Arif Nizami and other notable personalities will also address the function.
