All the opposition parties in the Punjab including Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have decide to field joint candidates against ruling party Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) in local bodies (LB) polls.
Addressing a joint press conference after attending a meeting with leaders of JI and PTI over the issue, PPP Central Punjab President Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo on Tuesday said that even PML-Q was on board over the struggle against PML-N’s contrived system of non-party LB elections. They vowed to write to Election Commission of Pakistan to fulfill its obligation regarding the issue, while seat adjustments between PTI, JI and PPP would also be made, during countless meetings to be scheduled.
It is pertinent to mention here that opposition parties in Punjab Assembly have showed unity in the assembly over different issues against PML-N and now they are united over opposing of LB elections in the province, referring the issue to courts and fielding joint candidates against PML-N.
Earlier, PTI staged protests inside and outside the Punjab Assembly against Punjab government’s decision to hold LB elections on non-party basis. PPP has also opposed the holding of LB elections on non-party basis.
