There really is no respite for the electricity-deprived citizens as 12 to 14 hours load shedding continues with the electricity shortfall figures now at an alarming 4,200MW.
Load shedding hours increased to between 12 and14 hours in the city and to between 16 and 18 hours in the urban areas under LESCO’s limits due to the rise in electricity consumption and the decline in electricity production in the previous few days.
Electricity shortfall at the national grid jumped to 4,200 MWs on Wednesday while the demand remained at 17,300 MWs.
Sources in the NDTCL said that the shortfall had reached 4,200MW due to the shortage in oil supply and it may further rise in case of humid weather.
On Wednesday, traders of Anarkali and its adjacent markets staged a protest against the prolonged load shedding at the Circular Road where they blocked the traffic for some time. They complained that their businesses had been disturbed and they could not even meet their daily expenses in the prevailing situation. They said that 12 to 14 hour load shedding and blackouts in electricity supply had turned their lives into a living hell. While protesting, they said that LESCO’s workers were not entertaining their complaints regarding the electricity blackouts.
They demanded the government to adopt measures to end the energy crisis otherwise they would be forced to close down their businesses. They said that the masses had very high expectations of the PML-N government, but the new regime’s behaviour had so far been similar to that of the previous government.
