The Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the federal government and other respondents on a petition challenging the recent increase in petroleum products price increases.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial passed the orders on a civil miscellaneous application in an already pending petition on the matter.
Earlier, the petitioner’s lawyer said that prices of petroleum products were decreasing world over, especially after the American announcement for the attack on Syria, but in Pakistan prices were increasing day-by-day because of the country’s rulers’ deplorable intentions.
The lawyer contended that petroleum prices, which affected every aspect of human life, were being increased without any reason and the rulers were making money this way. Moreover, he said that the oil which was being imported into Pakistan was mixed with sulphure and that this kind of oil was available at extremely low prices in all other countries.
The petitioner pointed out that Pakistan was buying oil from the Kuwait Oil Company without fulfilling the provision of relevant and necessary rules.
Furthermore, he said that opposition parties and the general public were raising their voices against this increase but the ruling party was turning a deaf ear to these demands. He said that this increase was against the Articles 18, 14, and nine of the constitution and should therefore be declared illegal and non-operational.
