A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday rejected a Punjab Police report regarding security arrangements of court premises throughout the province.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial expressed his dismay over the Punjab Prosecution Department’s performance saying that the accused involved in the heinous crimes were released from the prisons owing to poor prosecution.
The bench directed the Punjab Police and prosecution to submit a detailed report stating foolproof security arrangements in the lower judiciary premises of all provincial districts.
Earlier, Punjab Police Additional Inspector General Muhammad Amlaish and Punjab Prosecutor Sadaqat Ali Khan appeared before the court in response to a petition regarding the court premises’ security.
Amlaish submitted a report before the bench stating that the court’s security was being improved and various negligent police officials had been suspended and removed from the service. Quoting the report, he said that trained police officers were being appointed for the lower judiciary’s security.
Punjab prosecutor told the division bench that the department was cooperating with the police to improve the system.
At this, the bench rejected the report and observed that the prosecution had an important role in the criminal cases. However, the hardened criminals had been acquitted from the cases due to poor prosecution and investigation.
The bench the adjourned hearing till September 19 and sought a detailed report regarding the foolproof security for courts.
The court also ordered for fresh security plans for each judicial complex in the province to address their specific security threats besides introducing parameters proposed by the police authorities.
LHC SEEKS MURDER REPORT: Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice directed the Lahore District and Sessions Judge (D&SJ) to send a police report on the murder of a minor before the trial court within three days.
As per case details, Ghazi Road’s Feroz Din’s son Kashif Mehmood went out on an evening and did not return home. His family got worried and started a search. When he was not found, his elder brother Shafaqat lodged a complaint with the Factory Area’s Police.
The very next day, some people saw a hanged body in a nearby plaza and informed the police. Kashif’s family identified their son’s body.
The police said that an unidentified man kidnapped Kashif and killed him after sodomy before throwing his body in plaza in fear of being caught.
The D&SJ reported that the postmortem report of the deceased did not show any element of sodomy. Samples had been dispatched to a sovologist for further analysis. However, as per the D&SJ’s report, the accused individuals had not been traced out, for which purpose the call data of the mobile phone of the deceased had been obtained.
