KP govt offers amnesty to those escaped from DI Khan jail

In a bid to pave the way for re-arrest of the prisoners who escaped during the Taliban attack on Dera Ismail Khan jail on July 28, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government offered amnesty on Tuesday.
According to an official notification, the KP chief minister has announced one-time exemption from arrest and prosecution for escapees (under-trial/convicts) of Central Prison, DI Khan.
The notification reads, “The same shall be applicable to those prisoners only who voluntarily surrender to the local police of the nearest police station or the district administration. This incentive for voluntary surrender shall be valid for 15 days from issuance of this notification.”
It also reads that those who do not surrender upon expiry of the given period would be arrested and tried (apart from their original offences) in case FIR No 554, Dated 29th July, 2013 U/S 302 / 324 /353 /365 /427 /435/224A /120B /3 /4 / Exp/7ATA/186/148/149, Police Station, Cantt: District DI Khan.
Scores of Taliban militants attacked the jail on July 28 night and helped/forced around 247 prisoners to escape. Among the prisoners were militants involved in terrorism, including attacking and killing security forces personnel, government officials and civilians. More than 50 of them, including four women prisoners and a lady constable have already returned.
