Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration conducted 59 inspections of medical stores and sealed five during its ongoing campaign against food adulteration and spurious drugs in the federal capital.
Drug Inspector Sardar Shabbir Ahmed informed a high level meeting presided over by Chief Commissioner Jawad Paul on Monday that five medical stores namely Bolan Medical Store, Khattak Medical Store, Hussain Medical Store in Sector G-12, Zaki Medical Store G-8 and Qadir Medical Store have been sealed for operating without valid drug sale licenses.
Huge quantities of expired and narcotics drugs were also seized and 94 samples of drugs were sent to the laboratory for testing. He said that results of 35 have been received and out of which two samples were declared sub-standard.
Cases of all violations of Drug Act 1976 have been sent to the Islamabad Quality Control Board for further legal action against the offenders and prosecution.
ICT district health officer informed the participants that he conducted inspections in 341 hotels and bakeries during August and issued notices to 90 food outlets for failing to comply with sanitation rules and 33 samples were sent to the laboratory.
Assistant Director Food informed the meeting of conducting daily inspections of food outlets. Two go downs of expired spices were sealed in Bhara Kahu in August and their owners arrested. The inventory was also confiscated.
Capital Development Authority (CDA) health directorate said that they issued 96 notices to hotels and bakeries under the Pure Food Ordinance 1960 and challaned 28 food outlets for violation of food laws. Huge quantities of sub-standard food items including ketchup, mineral water and oil bottles were also destroyed.
