Former president Pervez Musharraf, who is already facing two high-profile murder cases, has been booked in another case for murdering Lal Masjid cleric Ghazi Abdul Rashid and his mother.

Police registered an FIR against the former president on the directions of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday.

Hearing a contempt of court petition, a single bench of IHC expressed annoyance with authorities and directed the Aabpara police station house officer to register the FIR.

The former president is already facing three high-profile cases, including murder case of Benazir Bhutto and Nawab Akbar Bugti.

IHC Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi resumed hearing in the contempt petition filed by Haroon Rashid, son of Ghazi Abdul Rashid, of Lal Masjid, alleging disobedience on part of Islamabad Police for registering FIR against Musharraf in the case of murdering Ghazi Abdul Rashid and his mother Sahib Khatoon despite court orders.

Earlier, the IHC bench on July 12, 2013 directed the Islamabad Police to proceed with the matter after recording the statement of the petitioner Haroon Rashid and register FIR, if there was cognisable offence.

However, police did not take the matter seriously, which perturbed the petitioner to file contempt of court petition.

Appearing on notice, the Abpara SHO presented a report, stating that the FIR could not be registered as there was no cognisable offence against Musharraf in the case. However, the court expressed annoyance and asked SHO Ghulam Qasim Niazi to register the FIR and produce a copy in court.

In FIR no 324/13, police booked the former president under Section 302 and 109 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) that relate to murder and abetment.

The complainant contended that his father and grandmother along with dozens of others had been killed in military operation ordered by the former president.
