The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) got certification of safety audit by the Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 to save human life and public property during any untoward emergency incident.
The safety certification was granted after an audit of the safety measures in LDA offices including the LDA staff’s capability to handle blast and fire emergencies, emergency exits from multi-storey buildings, the use of chemicals to minimise the intensity of fire and the evacuation of trapped personnel from the site.
The LDA management adopted these safety measures in accordance with the recommendation of Punjab’s Fire Safety Commission which was constituted after an inferno at Egerton Road’s multi-storied LDA Plaza on May 9 which claimed several lives besides damaging three storeys of the building.
Under the approved safety plan, the LDA installed fire extinguishing equipment and awareness boards on all its office floors and provided safety training to its staff.
A standard operating procedure (SOP) was also prepared according to the recommendations of a Rescue 1122 consultant to handle any emergency-like situation.
LDA Electro Mechanical Engineering Wing (EME) Director Abdul said these arrangements were the basic need of the institution to ensure the safety of precious lives and of public property during any emergency situation. He said the LDA would continue its efforts to improve safety measures in its offices according to the needs of the modern age.
