The constant road blockage due to demolition work being carried out at the fire-affected four-storey LDA Plaza at Egerton Road has become a regular source of inconvenience for motorists.
The demolition work on the plaza affected by an inferno on May 9 that claimed several lives started in June.
The contractor was given the task to complete the project within two months using the modern diamond cutter technology to save the remaining structure of the building but only 70 percent of the work has been completed so far.
Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) and the traffic police have blocked several roads including a portion of the Egerton Road from the LDA Plaza Chowk to the Aiwan-e-Iqbal Chowk which has put the whole burden of traffic on the other side of the Egerton road.
Prolonged and massive traffic jams have consequently become a common sight on the two-and-a-half lane road.
Sources in the LDA stated that the demolition work was being carried out with immense care to save the portion of building which was not affected by the fire. The public’s inconvenience was temporary and the remaining work would be completed in the next few weeks, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the traffic police stated that an additional force of wardens had been deployed to regulate vehicular traffic on the road.
