Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar said that illiteracy was the main cause of all problems presently faced by Pakistan.
“We will have to overcome these difficulties through strengthening our education sector,” Sarwar said while addressing the participants of the First National Conference on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Law at a local law college.
The governor said that about seven million children were deprived of basic education and were not attending schools. He added that said that CPD in Law was a mandatory requirement in several countries and that this initiative ensured the continuing development of individuals and the maintenance of high quality of services which were expected from the professional fraternity.
Furthermore, he said it was interesting to learn that the current legal framework did not accommodate the CPD requirement and that there was a need for reform in this framework. He expressed his hope that Pakistan’s law society would support this initiative. He also appreciated the services of the institution which had introduced a novel approach to legal education in Pakistan in addition to bringing this essential international trend to the country which would be providing a CPD workshop for Pakistani lawyers.
