The Islamabad police on Saturday claimed to have foiled a terror bid by recovering a huge amount of explosive material from a car in the federal capital.

According to police sources, the explosive-laden car was recovered from the house of Hamad Adil in the Bhara Kahu area. Hamad is the younger brother of Superintendent Police (SP) Kamran Adil who is currently posted in Lahore.

Sources said the Bhara Kahu police recovered 170 kilogramme explosives from an Alto car bearing the registration number HK-505, which was parked at Adil Heights in the Kalma Town area.

A senior police officer said Hamad had been taken into police custody but the police was not in a position to say anything about the involvement of SP Kamran yet.

He said the police, along with the bomb disposal squad, raided Hamad’s house following reports from intelligence agencies.

The police officer said SP Kamran used to live at the house before shifting to Lahore but currently the house was being used by Hamad.

During the raid, police recovered explosive material, detonators and other equipments from the car. The explosive material was concealed in the gas cylinder and a secret compartment of the car, he said.

The Bhara Kahu police have registered an FIR against the Hamad.

“We have started investigation. If we find evidence of SP Kamran’s involvement, we will definitely arrest him,” said the police officer.
