Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Chief Justice of Pakistan said that every institution has to respect and recognize constitutional norms.
Speaking in a gathering at the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry, the chief justice said that all institutions’ would have to working within their jurisdiction. “The three main organs of the state (judiciary, executive and legislature) are all powerful in their respective domains but cannot transit beyond their constitutional circumference to abuse of authority.”
The chief justice added that the success of a democratic system depended on the independence of judiciary which could not be ensured until all state institutions cooperate and work within the constitutional framework.
According to the chief justice, there was a responsibility on lawyers to uphold the law and people’s faith on courts would increase with better performance.
