MFN status to India not on the anvil: Dar

Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar says the government is fully committed to promote relations with neighbouring states with particular focus on meaningful economic and trade cooperation.
In an interview‚ he said granting of Most Favoured Nation Status to India is‚ however‚ not on the table for the time being.
To a question‚ the minister said the government has come forward with a pragmatic approach to address the issues of fiscal deficit. Process is underway to reduce public debt by two percent every year during the next three years bringing the 63.5 percent debt to 61.5 percent this year.
He said meaningful and realistic approach has also been adopted to restore confidence of the investors and the recent signing of agreement with the IMF is a major step towards the goal.
About raise in electricity cost for domestic consumers‚ Ishaq Dar said the government is paying a subsidy of two hundred billion rupees to domestic consumers each month.
