A judicial magistrate granted bail to Former Federal Minister Liaqat Abbas Bhatti against two surety bonds (Rs 50,000 each) in a housemaid habeas corpus case.
The housemaid who was subjected to torture changed her statement in court saying that no one had imprisoned her and that she had gone to her sister’s house.
The police raided Bhatti’s house in Johar Town on Friday and recovered the enchained 16-year-old maid and her minor brother. Bhatti was arrested and kept in lockup at the police station.
The police produced Bhatti in the judicial magistrate’s court on Saturday where the latter admitted his bail plea against two surety bonds worth Rs 50,000 each.
While talking to media personnel, Bhatti’s counsel said that Bhatti was not present at the occasion and had no connection with the incident. The servant had staged this drama in connivance with Bhatti’s rivals, he added.
