UN agrees to form sub-commission on Pak’s claim over area in Arabian Sea

The United Nations has agreed to constitute a sub commission to finalise the technical details confirming Pakistan’s claim on 50‚000 square kilometers of Exclusive Extended Economic Zone in the Arabian Sea.

The UN Commission on Law of Seas (UNCLOS) after two days deliberations has agreed to form the sub-commission. Pakistan has made its case for an extension of its territorial jurisdiction from the existing 200 nautical miles to 350 miles, the addition of 50,000 square kilometers.

A high-level delegation of the government of Pakistan including its permanent representative at UN Masood Khan presented Pakistan’s claim before the UNCLOS on 16th of this month.
