Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed reservations over the performance of law enforcement agencies and lifted the ban on recruitment to enhance their capacity.
The prime minister was chairing a meeting to discuss establishment of an anti-terrorism force in Punjab and meeting the representatives of company working on Lahore-Karachi Motorway on Friday.
During the meeting, the prime minister said he wanted recruitment to start in all LEAs within 10 days. He said the federal government would fully cooperate with the provinces in elimination of terrorism.
He asked the Punjab government to prepare a comprehensive plan for dealing with terrorist activities and training anti-terrorism force should be in accordance with military standard. He said eradication of terrorism from the country and restoration of peace was his government’s top priority for which all resources were being utilised.
He emphasised that eradication of terrorism was essential for economic development and peace in the country.
The prime minister also directed all LEAs to track terrorists and issued directives for the formation of a counterterrorism force in Punjab.
Nawaz pointed out that the terrorists wanted to destroy peace in the country but they all had to unite and foil their conspiracies.
He hoped that the Lahore-Karachi Motorway would be completed in two-and-a-half years that would play an important role in the development and prosperity of the country. The Chinese company’s delegation informed the prime minister that they had started feasibility study of the Lahore-Karachi Motorway.
Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, federal ministers Khawaja Mohammad Asif, Ahsan Iqbal and Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan briefed the prime minister about the establishment of anti-terrorism force and plan to deal with the menace of terrorism.
