Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Friday vehemently opposed a military operation in Karachi, saying peace should be restored in the country’s commercial capital by using civilian forces.

Talking to reporters, Khan said 150, 000 military jawans were fighting terrorists in the Tribal Areas and Balochistan and it was inappropriate to engage the military in Karachi as well.

Khan said there should be no military operation in the port city as the metropolis had been facing the consequences of 1992 operation. Police, he said, should be de-politicised in Karachi in order to maintain peace in the city.

To a question, he said Maulana Fazlur Rehman was engaging in politics by selling religion.

He questioned Fazl’s source of income, saying the JUI-F chief was living like a king. The PTI leader said Pakistan’s problems could not be addressed by the current government.
