Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to ensure the availability of medicines in DHQ/THQ Hospitals and health centers in Punjab.
The chief minister said that no complaint of the non-availability of medicines would be tolerated. The Health Department issued a circular addressing all divisional commissioners in which they were asked to direct the district governments within their jurisdiction to conclude the procurement of medicines within shortest possible timeframe in accordance with the 2009 Punjab Procurement Rules for ensuring the uninterrupted availability of medicines in the Punjab’s government hospitals.
A circular was issued by the Punjab health secretary to all the divisional commissioners in which it was clarified that all Health DCOs and EDOs were fully authorised to sanction the expenditure on the purchase of medicines under the 2006 Punjab Delegation of Financial Power Rules. The letter also clarified that the procurement of medicines at the district level would be reviewed in the next commissioners’ conference which would be shortly held.
